How the ratings work
A similarity figure is the owners' vote plus the overlap of the published notes. It is never a lab measurement, and it never says identical.
What a comparison is
Every pair on this site is a community comparison: people who own both bottles say the cheaper one smells close to the other. We score each pair from 50 to 90. The score starts from how strong the community record is, moves with how much the two published note lists overlap, and is marked down when one bottle is claimed for two different originals. Each pair also carries how well documented it is: well documented, reported by several owners, or reported by a few.
Where the notes and prices come from
Notes come from the house's own site or a major retailer's listing, and each record names its source. When a house has not published a note list we say so on the page rather than invent one. Prices are typical US bottle prices at the time of the last update; the price on Amazon on the day can differ, and the Amazon page is the one that counts.
Similar, inspired by, never identical
A fragrance's smell is not protected by copyright, which is why houses like Lattafa, Armaf, Afnan and Dossier can legally make bottles inspired by famous ones. Their names and bottles are their own. We use a designer's or a niche house's name only to say which scent a bottle is similar to; nothing here is affiliated with or endorsed by any house, and no bottle on this site is a copy of another.
How the site earns
As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases made through the Amazon links. The commission never changes a ranking: the order on every page is the similarity score, and the score has no price in it.
The numbers today
1528 bottles indexed, 296 designer and niche fragrances with at least one match, 1181 matching bottles, 1234 comparisons of which 386 are well documented. The set grows as owners add comparisons; a page with a gap says what is missing.
